Dog Washing Station Safety Checklist: 15 Things to Check Before the First Bath

A stainless grooming tub can make bathing easier, but it also adds ramps, doors, wet surfaces, plumbing and restraint points. This checklist turns those details into a repeatable routine.

Before the dog enters

• Level the station.
• Verify door/ramp latches.
• Run water and inspect fittings.
• Clear bottles, cords and tools from the route.

Entry and exit

Dry the approach, check tread grip and stand beside the dog instead of pulling from the front. Train entry with the station dry before introducing water.

Inside the tub

Use a stable drain board, check for toe-catching gaps, feel edges and hardware by hand, and keep supplies within reach.

Water and temperature

Test water before spraying the dog. Start the sprayer away from the dog so an initial pressure burst does not trigger panic.

Restraints are backup, not supervision

A grooming tether should prevent an easy jump without choking, suspending or leaving the dog unattended.

Electrical safety

Keep dryers, clippers, cords and chargers out of splash zones. Follow the manual closely for electric-lift models.

After the bath

Drain fully, remove hair, dry the entry and wipe standing water from the floor before releasing the dog.
